How to Use Reflexology for Migraines




For migraines with a known physical cause, treat the spine, concentrating on the neck area at the top of the spine, to release tension. Working these reflex points can bring relief from migraine pain, even if you are unsure of what caused your headache.

    Use your right thumb to work over the tops of your first 3 toes, starting with your big toe. If your migraine is acute and this area of your toe is extra sensitive, use only a very light pressure. Press and massage your 3 toes for at least 5 minutes.

    Repeat this process on your left foot, using your left thumb to work the first 3 toes.

    Use your thumbs or your knuckles to press all the reflex points at the base of your toes, both on the soles and tops of your feet. Your toes contain all the reflex points for your brain, sinuses, neck and head.

Liver Reflex Point on Your Right Foot

Migraines are often related to your digestion, so improving your liver function is paramount. Your health and vitality is determined by the health and vitality of your liver. And if you have subjected your liver to a lifetime of toxic chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, fats, drugs, food additives and alcohol, you can start repairing the damage to your liver at the same time you are treating your migraine headache.

    Support the top of your right foot with your left hand and use your right thumb to treat your liver reflex, which is located just underneath your lung reflex.

    Use your thumb to inch across the entire area, from the inside of your foot to the outside.

    Work your way back again in the opposite direction. Your liver is on the right side of your body, so you only need work on your right foot.

Cervical Spine Reflex Points on Your Feet

Your spine reflex runs along the inside edge of each foot, the curves of which mirror those of the spine itself. The cervical vertebrae reflex points are at the top of each foot along the side of your big toe.

    Begin with the reflex point for your cervical spine, where the toe joins the foot. Hold and press this reflex for several minutes.

    Continue pressing on the reflex points for the other divisions of your vertebrae (thoracic, lumbar, sacral and coccyx).

Neck, Brain and Spine Reflex Points on Your Hands

Treat the brain and cervical spine reflexes for stress-related migraines.

    Rub your hands together briskly to warm them up and make them more flexible.

    Refer to a hand reflexology chart about the location of your neck, brain and spine reflex points.

    Start with your brain reflex point by using your right thumb to press on the tip of your left thumb. Hold a steady pressure there for one minute and then release.

    Continue using your thumb to apply pressure to all the spine reflexes, continuing from the tip of your thumb along the outer edge of your thumb, all the way down to your wrist.

    Press and squeeze each fingertip of your other four fingers—these are the brain reflexes.

    Squeeze each finger from the base to the fingernail. All of the reflex points for your eyes, ears and sinuses are on your fingers.

Your 10-minute hand reflexology self treatment starts with:

Step 1 - pinching the finger tips and thumb of your right hand. The pressure applied to each finger should be firm, but make sure it is not painful. A few seconds for each single finger tip will be sufficient. The following step is to repeat this process on your left hand.

The next steps are:

Step 2 - pinching the sides of your finger tips;

 step 3 - vigorous finger rubbing; 
step 4 - more finger rubbing but now the tops and bottoms + rubbing the sides of your fingers; 
step 5 - finger tugging: grasp each single finger (and thumb) at the base and tug firmly; 
step 6 - pinch and pull the webbed areas between your fingers; 
step 7 - gently massage the top of your hand with your thumb; 
step 8 - gently massage your inner wrists;
 step 9 - massage firmly the palm of your hand; and 
step 10 - centering by your thumb deeply in the center of your palm.

Urutan Ketika Hamil



 

Rawatan urutan memberikan faedah kepada wanita hamil. Namun begitu ramai doktor yang agak berat memberikan galakan pada wanita hamil untuk berurut kerana rawatan ini bukan saja mendatangkan manfaat, tetapi juga boleh mendatangkan mudharat bergantung kepada cara dan latihan yang ada pada sipengurut.

Tidak semua pengurut mahir dalam bidang yang mereka lakukan. Ada di antara mereka yang langsung tidak ada pengetahuan dan berlagak seolah-olah tahu. Ada pula yang mengurut hanya berdasarkan pengetahuan. Sudah tentu ini akan membahayakan ibu dan bayi dalam rahem.

Urutan tidak digalakkan di awal kehamilan, iaitu apabila usia kehamilan kurang dari 12 minggu kerana ia boleh mendatangkan risiko keguguran. Lagi pun tidak banyak manfaat diperolehi untuk mereka berurut.

Urutan yang baik dapat merehatkan otot dan melancarkan peredaran darah dan cairan limfatik. Apabila otot dan darah tidak beredar lancar dalam darah, ini boleh menyebabkan pembentukan darah beku pada otot peha dan betis.

Oleh itu, pengurut yang baik tidak akan mengurut terlalu kuat di bahagian otot peha dan betis, bimbang akan darah beku yang telah pun terbentuk di situ akan tertanggal (dislodge) dan memasuki saluran darah. Serpihan darah beku ini akan membentuk thrombus dan boleh menyebabkan stroke.

Selain itu, urutan hanya dibenarkan di bahagian tubuh yang lain kecuali abdomen. Namun ada juga pengurut yang melakukan urutan di bahagian ini, tetapi saya menasihatkan agar urutan pada abdomen walaupun ringan tetapi lebih baik ditinggalkan. Ini kerana urutan pada abdomen boleh merangsangkan rahem untuk mengecut dan menyebabkan keguguran.

Urutan pada wanita hamil boleh digunakan pelbagai teknik. Urutan ini haruslah urutan yang bersifat ringan walaupun menekan ke dalam otot menggunakan teknik ‘deep-tissue massage’.

Kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh pengurut yang tidak bertauliah ialah mereka menggunakan hujung kuku untuk menekan ke dalam otot menyebabkan rasa sakit dan meninggalkan bekas pada badan. Cara ini tidak memberikan manfaat. Malah mendatangkan kemudharatan.

Selain itu pengurut harus berhati-hati ketika mengurut wanita hamil kerana terdapat bahagian-bahagian yang sensitif yang harus dielakkan ketika mengurut.

Selain abdomen, bahagian yang sensitif ialah bahagian pergelangan kaki (ankle) dan pergelangan tangan (wrist). Urutan di bahagian ini akan merangsangkan otot-otot pada bahagian abdomen dan pelvik terutama otot rahem untuk mengecut dan menyebabkan keguguran.

Oleh itu jika mengalami rasa sakit di bahagian abdomen ketika sedang berurut seolah-olah mahu melahirkan (Braxton-Hicks contraction) haruslah segera memberitahu pengurut agar urutan dapat dihentikan dan segera berkonsultasi dengan doktor yang merawat.
